2 Years Without Sugar and Feeling Great

If you have read my blog in the past, you may have noticed that I hate sugar with a passion. Well, I have trouble believing it myself, but I decided to go without sugar on July the 1st 2021 and haven’t touched it since.

So, how do you I feel? Well, I never have a craving for it. I am often offered sweet food and I always refuse. I guess I have gotten to the point where I can’t really remember what it tastes like. That is unusual for a person who used to eat a lot of sweet food in the past. I ate sugar in some form every day, and I always enjoyed desserts, especially ice cream.

I haven’t had an issue with my teeth since I gave up sugar, and they always feel clean, even after eating a meal. Hopefully, I continue to have good oral hygiene for years to come.

I think the best part about giving up sugar is there are none of those sugar slumps. Eating sweet food tends to give you a short-lived boost of energy followed by a crash. For me, it not only affected my energy levels, but it also affected my mood. I think we all have ups and downs in life, but sugar definitely contributes to these moods a lot.

Sweet food was a comfort food for me, as I am sure it is for many people. But I would often eat sweet food when I was feeling down, and it would keep me down. If only I knew, I would have given up sugar earlier and ate something with a lot of protein to cheer me up instead.

If you google ‘Why is sugar bad for you’ you will find things like eating too much sugar causes high blood pressure, diabetes, weight gain and the list goes on. But the surprising thing is that too much sugar is a lot less than you think.

The average non-diabetic person can only hold 4 grams of sugar in their blood. Someone with diabetes has just over 6 grams. I won’t get out of my depth here with the science, but I think you can guess how much your body is suffering when you have even just a few cookies with your coffee.

There are so many other great foods to eat out there that won’t harm your body and will improve your mood, not make you feel worse. So, eat them instead. It has worked for me. It kind of sounds like a retro commercial, but it’s true.
