Last week I talked about Getting things done and I mentioned one thing that works for me which is writing a list. After doing some research, I did come up with a few ideas or tricks to getting you to stop procrastinating and becoming more proactive in your life projects. Some are new to me and some I have never heard of.
Thinking about the reason why you are doing something is a great way to get motivated. Many people have photos on their work desks of their family to remind them of why they are doing the job. I suppose you could apply the Why to many things. Why did I join the gym? To get fit, and socialize. Why do I need to socialize? I want to find real connections rather than just communicating on social media and I find that the people at the gym share the same hobbies as me.
You can locate some imaginary friends to help motivate you. This sounds a bit out there, but it kind of makes sense. Since the friends are imaginary, you can choose maybe someone who is famous that you admire. It might be a famous actor that you like. Imagine that you have Arnold Schwarzenegger at your beck and call motivating you at the office or the gym to help you get anything done. You could ask anyone you like for advice.
Meditation also seems to be a great tool to getting you focused on the task ahead. A study was conducted on 20 to 25-year-old students that were experienced in mediation. After conducting interviews on these students about their study performance, they found that these students ranked low on a procrastination scale. They consequently were able to think more clearly, be more focused and were able to regulate their emotions well. So, why not give meditation a try?
These are 3 of many great ideas out there to stay on task and get your projects finished. Apart from imaginary friends, I am real and I could also help you to sort through the clutter in your life. Feel free to contact me. The first session is free.
