It has been about twelve weeks since I have engaged in the practice of grounding. I wrote about it the day I discovered it and two weeks later for an update on my experiences. I read that after a period of 6 weeks you will start to feel some real benefits from the practice. Well, it has been double that time and I do believe that I am feeling some positive effects, actually I couldn’t do without it.
I have tried my best to get in the minimum amount of 30 minutes a day. That is not always easy for a number of reasons, one being mosquitos, another being rainy weather. But at times I have been really determined to get my grounding sessions in that I have been sitting in the garden under an umbrella. I have also invested in some mosquito spray as well.
I mentioned in my 2 week update that when I am stressed and have some kind of a problem on my mind that grounding helps to release the stress. That is still true, but I think that I can elaborate and say that when I am ruminating on a problem, I am able to easily let go of the problem, especially when the feelings are irrational. I think it helps me to think of my problems in a new light.
I have also found that in small doses a bit of grounding does help me to get through a tough day. It sounds weird but, at times on my break, I will take a walk and just firmly grab trees as I walk by. It does help to reduce some stress.
Recently I have found out about other people that have done grounding as well. A relative of mine told me about how an elderly person with a bad knee engaged in grounding and was able to get rid of his walking stick. Now that may sound a bit hard to believe, but actually the tendonitis in my knee has recently shown some improvement. Even after getting into running. I have done many things to improve it, like changing my running technique and cycling in between runs. But maybe grounding has helped.
My relative has actually met a couple of ‘grounders’ if you could call them that, in her local park, and they were Chinese. And another relative also told me that she has seen many of them in Shanghai, so I did a bit of searching online, and I found that the Chinese have been doing this for thousands of years. It is part of the practice of ‘Qi’ and it has a lot to do with pressure points on the bare feet amongst a number of other practices.
I don’t know anything about ‘Qi’ but it does sound like it is much more than just the concept of physics, where the body can experience positive effects through electrical charges in the earth. But it does sound like the concept is not a new one, and it makes me confident that I can still continue to benefit from it.
