So Hungry I Could Eat a Cow, or Two.

Tonight, I will begin my 48 hour fast. Yes, I will not eat for two whole days. It sounds hard, stupid, and maybe a bit crazy. I have found that it has great health benefits and that in order to trigger the process known as a utophagy, 48 hours is a good length for a fast. So, what is autophagy? If you google it, you will find a lot of information and basically you can break down the word autophagy into “auto” which means “self” and “phagy” which means “eat”. The two words combined mean “self-eating”. It is a process discovered that helped the Japanese cell biologist Yoshinori Ohsumi win a Nobel prize. It is all about the body doing a spring clean of the cells in the body, by cleaning out cells such as damaged white cells and re-generating new ones. I will not be alone with my fast. I have decided to use techniques from the school of solution-focused therapy to help me along the way. I would ask myself scaling questions. I could give myself a ranking from 1 to 10 for the following: How would I rate my hunger if 1 was a little hungry and 10 was starving. How much more important is it to eat something compared to helping my body increase its immune system? I will let you know how solution-focused therapy helps me in my quest to reach autophagy.
