Over the next few weeks, I would like to talk about music and its benefits for mental health. I have discovered many things about how people use music to cope with stress and relax. Most people would think that soft music is always good for relaxing, but it is not always the case.
Personally, my music tastes are quite varied, but I did rely a lot on rock music as a teenager. It helped me release the frustrations and stress that I was experiencing during my school days. It could help me to forget about my troubles and just absorb myself in the music. It always helped if I listened to music, I could also sing to take me that extra step into the world of the singer.
Metal music is often believed to be a dark form of music with references to death; however, according to research it could actually help listeners to have a better understanding of death and improve their coping skills with all of the tragedies happening around the world.
On the other hand, metal, according to other research, may increase the depressive moods of teenage girls that listen to it and have the opposite effect from the uplifting moods of soul and pop music. People ultimately listen to music that corresponds with their moods; however, it seems that metal, depending on the listener, could be doing more harm than good.
I think I have opened up a can of worms with this research and I am looking forward to seeing what else I can find.
