Two of the most common mental disorders that people hear about often are without a doubt anxiety and depression. A simple but incomplete definition for depression is a feeling of sadness and loss of interest in your life. For anxiety it is a feeling of unease or worry about the future. Therefore I wondered, if you have a loss of interest in your life then maybe you would not feel worried about things, but this is not the case.
There are people in the world living with both, anxiety and depression, and it is rather common. As you can imagine it can be a great ordeal. I decided to look into the phenomena with some interesting results.
One sufferer has mentioned that it is like both of these disorders are fighting with each other. The anxiety is producing an overactive mind, obsessed with worry, and the depression is telling the sufferer to just give up on everything; there is no point. A common symptom that the sufferers mentioned was a lack of sleep and exhaustion with all the activity going on inside their head.
It is also mentioned that anxiety is a symptom of depression. People with an overactive mind may obsessively worry about something even though they know they shouldn’t, and because they did again, they eventually feel depressed about it. They get disappointed in themselves and they switch over to depression.
The overwhelming advice is that if you are suffering anxiety, you should do something about it. Talk about it with people that care for you, or you trust. Seek advice from a counsellor or other professional. It could be a pre-cursor to depression and needs to be addressed.
