My Ketogenic Diet, One Year On.

Today I am going to be talking about something a little bit different. I has been just over a year since I gave up my high carb lifestyle, especially chips, rice, and wheat bread, and took on the ketogenic lifestyle. I decided to do this to help improve my health, but it rapidly became something a little different.

Initially, I was not sure how long I would continue with keto, but I began to get interested in seeing what kind of results I could get within 1 year.

Let’s summarize some of my experiences with keto. Firstly, it was hard to deal with giving up carbs. I was always a high carb person. I also needed a lot of carbs to fuel my main hobby, running. Giving up carbs was frustrating at first, and it was hard due to energy slumps and sometimes even constipation.

My feelings towards carbs changing from missing them madly to, missing them sometimes, and now it is more like ‘carbs’ what are they? Of course, I still eat carbs, but just in small amounts in vegetables and nuts.

I lost 20kg within the first 6 months, so why continue with keto. I continued it to see what other great benefits I could get from keto; such as, reduced inflammation. I guess one of the main reasons I have continued keto is that it has made me become aware of what our body needs. Now all the food I eat is food that my body needs.

Eating bad food often made me feel guilty. But now that I eat healthy food with every meal mentally, I feel more confident that I am doing something good for myself and may also help to influence others to do the same.

Now it is time to set new goals. I may include more regular long fasts. There are a lot of decisions that need to be made. I hope to do more research into the benefits of keto and help to support other people on their journey to gain health benefits from the lifestyle.
