Believe it or not, I still have a lot more interesting information about sugar and the bad things it does to your body. First of all, let me give you a bit of background information for my next sugar-related topic.
Just recently I had my cholesterol levels checked again. About six months ago I checked them and my total cholesterol was through the roof. I can’t remember the numbers, but I do remember they were triple the normal. The doctor wanted me to take mediation to reduce them straight away, so I told him I’m on the keto diet and that could be why they are high. Since then, I tweaked my diet a little and got my cholesterol down, but it is still considered high, but one thing that is normal is my triglycerides.
I wondered what triglycerides are and why they are included in my cholesterol test. Also, why are they normal and the rest of my numbers low. When you ask for a cholesterol test, they actually normally give you a lipid profile. Cholesterol and triglycerides are both lipids. Lipids are building blocks for all living cells and are fatty, waxy or oily compounds.
Triglycerides, just like cholesterol are lipids, but they are of the waxy fat variety, and they give your body energy. Therefore, if you don’t use the energy then your triglycerides get too high, but sugar can also affect them. Apparently, the extra sugar that you have in sweets, soft drinks, and added sugar in your food can elevate the triglycerides in your blood. It sounds a bit confusing; sugar affecting a waxy fat store, but apparently it does and you don’t want to get high triglycerides.
High triglycerides can cause hardening of the arteries, which can put you at risk of stroke, heart attack, and heart disease. So, we need to take control of the amount of sugar we eat, not only for our waist line but also to prevent any of these conditions.
Stay active, and don’t eat sugar.
I hope you are enjoying my articles as much as I am enjoying researching and writing them. If you have anything that you would like to talk about, problems that are on your mind, feel free to contact me. The first session is free.
