The fat man in red with the long beard will soon be arriving in our homes this month. Will he be able to fit through our chimney? Will he eat all of our cookies. I hope he is not lactose intolerant because I will be giving him a glass of milk with extra cream.
We are now into our first weekend of December so I am sure we have the jolly festival on our minds. We need to go over our plans, find out who will be coming to Christmas dinner and who to buy presents for. But for many people Christmas is not a time for joy, but rather a time to forget or ignore.
Of course, this blog is going out to anyone who has the internet, which means people that aren’t Christian, and people that don’t celebrate Christmas. It also goes out to people who have stopped celebrating the festival for various reasons.
Many people may now be put in a situation where the things they love about their family traditions have gone. Family members who were the heart of Christmas for their families have passed away, or maybe they are just unreachable because they have moved away or you have moved away. There are a lot of cheesy Christmas movies where the family makes every effort to be back together again for Christmas Day, but for some people it is just not possible.
Christmas is celebrated, of course, for its Christian significance, but many people enjoy it as a time to celebrate with friends, co-workers, or family. For some people, it is a warm up celebration for the New Year. No matter how you celebrate it, it should not be a time for simply just endure, but a time for happiness.
Christmas may have changed for you, but it is just another part of life that changes. We need to embrace the changes, but it can be too much for some people. Next week I will look into how we can deal with this, as it can be a tough time to deal with. Hopefully I can find ways to help people during the festive times.
