Getting enough sleep?

Recently I had something on my mind that really bothered me. I won’t go into details, but it was not something really serious for me to waste my time thinking about. It was also not that serious that it would cause me to plunge into a downward spiral of negative thoughts. Furthermore, these negative thoughts and worries continued to spin around in a way, putting me in a bad mood. I would think about the problem, then it would go away, then I would think about this again. What I have essentially defined is what is known as rumination. I wondered why I was thinking about this problem and taking it out of proportion, then I thought maybe I caused it from my lack of sleep.

I think you could think of rumination, in this case, as being like a hangover. We all know that hangovers have many so-called cures, some may work for some people and not for others, but we know the best cure for a hangover is time and sleep. Rumination in my case was cured by sleep and I was feeling much more positive the next morning.

I also did a quick google search about the subject and found out that research was conducted into how sleep deprivation can be a cause of rumination. It is true that other cases of rumination may have other causes other than sleep; however, in my case it was brought upon by my inability to get enough sleep, and it could happen to you as well. So, manage your sleep well. Don’t get too hooked on Netflix, if you have to get up early sleep early. Value your important sleep time as it is important for your mood and mental health.
