Every day we are judging things that are in our lives, whether they be a movie, a business seminar, or a meal. We all have an opinion on the quality of things that we experience. We like to give a rating out of ten for things that we experience in our lives. In some ways, judging isn’t a positive trait. People don’t like to be judged for the things that they do, especially if they aren’t personally happy with their performance. However, we can use a rating system for ourselves to help us track the progress of how we’re able to deal with obstacles. We may have trouble coping with anxiety. Especially with the long-lasting pandemic limiting our freedoms and forcing us into a new normal. Think about things that stress you. At the end of a long day, could you give yourself a rating out of ten for how stressed you are? Say, for example, that your day ended up being an 8, where 10 is the highest level of stress, and ask yourself some simple questions like why wasn’t it a 10, or how could I make little improvements to bring it down to a 7. This is a simple ‘solution-focused brief therapy’ technique that, when used often could help you reduce anxiety. Let me know if it helps you out.
