Just recently I went on a great short holiday to a lively beach town. This is a kind of town that has two lives. In the daytime, it is family friendly, and in the late hours of the night it is a time for, shall I say, painting the town red. There are many nightclubs that never sleep, basically.
I found one little corner of the beach that was very popular. On the back of a pickup truck a pop-up DJ appeared. He was parked along the beach and had his speakers blaring on one corner of the boardwalk. This marvellous concept gave the beachgoers of all ages a taste of what happens late at night in the clubs, but he was able to do it in the earlier hours.
I had a look at the mobile DJ twice. The first time there were a couple of dancers at around 7pm. The second time, at a still early hour of the evening, 830pm, he had a big following of people. This time he switched DJs to an energetic female DJ, and everyone was popping. There were men in their 30s, 40s and 50s; mothers were dancing with their children, aged 2 to 12.
The 50-year-old had a beer belly, not much hair, but was not afraid to move on the dance floor; the 12-year-old wanted to show off to her mum, and the 2-year-old had recently learned to walk and was learning to dance for the first time in front of an audience.
One thing that was plain to see on this night is that everyone is happy at this point in time. The DJ is happy that everyone likes her music; the dancers are having a great time and the people watching also love it. They were taking videos to show their friends, who I am sure will also get some enjoyment from it as well.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8767071/The dancers and their audience pretty much covered every age group except the elderly, so I had a look at what benefits can be obtained by them. Dancing is good to help the elderly be sociable, to improve their strength and therefore prevent falls, but also to help them fight depression and elevate their moods.
Dancing can help anybody improve their mood, and apparently it can help you do this by stopping you from ruminating about bad thoughts. I am sure that you have at some point in time had trouble letting go of negative thoughts, well dancing can help you do this.
So next time you get an opportunity, get up and dance. It doesn’t need to be in front of an audience, just dance for your happiness and maybe even the happiness of people that you love.
