More Reasons to Give up the Sweet Stuff

I have written so many blog posts about sugar and its effects on our health both physical and mental. My blogs have ranged from the negative effects on teeth, dementia to depression and energy levels in children. I have recently found came across some interesting information that I would like to share that will give you an added incentive to give up sugar for good.

Many of us are doing some research into what nutrients, vitamins, minerals and the like that we need for our daily health and which of these are lacking in our diet. If we believe that we are lacking, for example, certain vitamins, many of us would seek out and buy these vitamins as a dietary supplement. But what if there is something that is blocking the absorption of these vitamins? If we are taking in too much sugar, that is exactly what is happening.

Sugar, in its many forms, can inhibit the body from absorbing nutrients in many ways. I do not have enough time to explain every way that sugar is interrupting the body’s way of taking in these nutrients, but I will talk about one way that I found quite interesting.

Glucose, one of the sugars, has a fight with Vitamin C to enter the bloodstream and it is usually the winner. It takes on the same pathway and therefore it raises many questions as to how much vitamin C the average human being is able to absorb if you consider the most popular sources of vitamin C. Everyone loves to eat oranges, not only because they are delicious but also because they are known to have a lot of vitamin C, but of course they are a type of sweet fruit and therefore they also contain a lot of glucose.

What about the vitamin C supplements? Many of them also have vitamin added sugar; therefore, you can only imagine how much of a waste of money they could be. But it is not only sugar, but eating a diet high in carbohydrates will also reduce your ability to absorb vitamin C.

I think this is a great incentive to give up or at least reduce the amount of sugar you eat. If you got this far, thank you for reading my rant about sugar and take care of your health. Let me know what you think in the comments.
