Even though we are in a pandemic, I’m sure that you all remember airplane flight safety instructions regarding how to use oxygen on a plane. It goes a little something like this: If you are travelling with a child or someone who requires assistance, secure your oxygen mask first, and then help the other person. In situations other than flight safety, we should really do the opposite. I think it’s good practice to always give first priority to loved ones. When I was raising a child, I always made sure that my child was comfortable before I made myself comfortable, was fed before me and got anything that she needed before me. But actually, I think that we need to do this for everyone that we love and are close to. When I am making coffee nowadays, I always make sure that my family members get their coffee first. I also try to do anything that a loved one requests of me before I do anything that I want to do. Before I used to think, why should I do that straight away. But nowadays, I feel that putting loved ones first, makes you a more loving person and overall, everyone wins. I must admit that I am still learning to do this and it may take a while, but I definitely think it will be worth it. If you have been practicing putting loved ones first already, let me know how you find it.
