For the purposes of this blog I am referring to Belief Attachment as mainly a sense of being stuck with a strong and unwavering opinion on an issue.
On the upside, having a strong opinion helps you to be sure of yourself based on information that you have either researched yourself, or been told by others. I remember having a great university lecturer who challenged his students with thought-provoking questions. When the students answered, he never told the students that their answers were wrong, but he did ask them what they based their opinions on.
It was a great lesson in life for me. We need to come up with our own opinions based on our own research, whether it be academically, or just lessons we have learned in life. It is great to get advice from our parents and peers; however, we also need to get second opinions from reliable websites or other people.
The downside to having strong opinions and being completely attached is very serious. It is the cause of many arguments and when we don’t agree with someone else on something that they are passionate about, it could cause rifts between friends. We should also try to understand where they are coming from as well. But sometimes people are so stubborn to believe that someone else may be right for a change.
Nutrition is an area where there are many different opinions. We need to find our own opinions about issues like this, of course, because different diets work well for different people.
If the world respected other peoples opinions and also became open to changing their own opinion, then maybe we wouldn’t have as many arguments, fights and wars. Listen to your loved ones, put yourself in other peoples shoes, try to understand them, and I am sure life would be much better for you.
