Supporting Our Mental Health Can Be Tough

Many of us nowadays understand the importance of looking after our mental health. Just like when we are tired, we have a rest, or if we overdo our sports, we may need to take some time out, especially if we have an injury. Looking after our mental health is the same.

There are still many people out there that don’t believe that it is important, or they believe they don’t have any issues with their own mental health. They may feel that they are tough, and nothing bothers them, or they may feel that if they talk about their mental health, they may be admitting that they are crazy.

At times, I had been given the advice to ‘toughen up’ when I was under stress, and it did help, but other times it didn’t. I needed to talk over problems and work through strategies to cope with pain, stress, or anxiety that I was dealing with.

In the long run, it is always best to get support from someone, whether it be someone close to us, a friend we trust or a professional. Getting the right support for your mental health can also be tough. In the past, I have approached many different therapists, some of these services were free, and some I had to pay for. They were not always helpful.

When you are familiar with the concept of therapy, you will understand that therapists are there to work with you to find the best way to help you heal yourself. Sometimes the help that they give may be very little and almost seem like nothing at all. Other times, you may be given a lot of advice that is not suitable for you.

On the other hand, there are many people that may help me to change my mind and feel that I have the power to sort out my problems. Sometimes it may be just something small, but it is something.

It is always important to try different therapists and not lose confidence in yourself because the therapist you chose does not help you. I am sure that there are people that may not find my therapy helpful, but there are many people that do.

There are many different therapists with many different tools to help you with your mental health. Don’t be afraid to try a new one, especially if you are not satisfied with what you are getting from the one you are seeing now.
