Today I am lucky enough to travel to the northern most part of Thailand, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the small scenic village known as Ban Jabo. We were served with a traditional Lahu hilltribe meal. The food was fresh from their village, and included their delicious gourd soup and home-grown pork stir-fry. After the meal, I was sitting on the balcony of the homestay room and enjoying the view of the mountains, and thinking that it would be great to have a drink of alcohol to amplify my good mood. But then I thought I probably would not feel good the next morning. It is maybe better to enjoy the clean air, the sound of the insects humming and the early winter climate. I was thinking that if I had a clear head and woke up fresh the next morning, I could go for a mountain run. I was literally swapping a bad habit of drinking to a good habit of physical exercise the next morning. A drink would have made me feel good that night, but the good feeling would have ended in a short time. The high that I got from the run, also lasted much longer, and is still lasting until now. Running down the hill, past the crowing roosters on the street, all while enjoying the smells of food being cooked on woodfires, was a much better experience. I recommend swapping a bad habit for a good one, whenever you get the chance.
