In August 2021. I decided to go Keto and a lot of things have changed. At the start it was tough, I was probably one of the highest high carbers out there, so it was difficult to adjust. I used to eat a lot of bread, pasta and plenty of chips and chocolate. I had to give all of that up; however, I still drink 100% cocoa. I lost weight very quickly, especially the first 10 kilograms. The next 10 kilograms took a few more months.
A lot of my feelings have changed about food and my attitude towards it. But something that has definitely changed for the good is my mood. I think that I am generally a lot happier. If I find some kind of a problem in my life, I am less likely to ruminate on it and more likely to take some action toward rectifying it. This could be due to the lower highs and lows of blood glucose circulating through my body.
Cravings have been reduced, I think, for all foods. When I passed a bakery or some kind of a sweet shop in the past, it seemed tempting to me. The first few months, I started to realize how the majority of food around me is full of carbs. But just in the last few months, I started to think about why we have a health food aisle in the supermarket. Shouldn’t all of the supermarket be health food? We should have a junk food aisle instead.
My energy levels have improved. I thought I needed carbs to run. I was wrong. I have heard of people taking on diets that consist of 80 percent carbs in order to improve their running. It may work well for some people, but I don’t understand how it could, when our blood can only hold a teaspoon of glucose at a time.
On the other hand, I do understand that different food works for different people. I am starting to believe that too much dairy isn’t good for me. It is giving me stomach aches. Also, I am experimenting with reducing coffee to help improve my dehydration. I have formed my own opinions on what food is good for me through reading research and my own personal experience. Of course, you should also listen to your doctor, but the doctor doesn’t know you as much as you do.
